We want to show you why some work needs to be carried out and what causes the damage to your home,
so we will show you what the surveyor is looking for and how we can repair the damage to your property.

Plastering & Rendering

We can plaster any room from a cupboard to a school hall,
arches, vaulted ceilings or plaster coving.

You should never cover up any wet walls with plaster or plasterboards.

You should use a tanking system below ground level like in this cellar. The plaster will never come into contact with any water in a fully tanked cellar. Any shapes can be accommodated with the flexible tanking system.

  1. Plastered vaulted cellar ceilings
  2. Plastered stair case access to the cellar
  3. Plastered cellar walls
  4. Plastered cellar walls after painting

Damp and plaster do not mix

Damp carries soluble salts which react with plaster,
causing the plaster to swell, crumble or fall off the walls.

Waterproof render is made from washed plastering sand,
cement and additives to prevent damp or salt from
penetrating through to the plaster.

The scratched surface allows the plaster to grab onto the
render coat.

  1. Rendered arch using waterproof render
  2. Plastered arch over the cured render coat
  3. Rendered wall using waterproof render
  4. Plastered wall to the full height, floor to ceiling

Damp proofing is a 2 part system,
injection and rendering.

Part 1,
The new damp proof course injection makes sure that no new
salt carrying damp rises up.

Part 2,
The waterproof render makes sure that the salt contaminated
bricks do not cause damage to the new plaster.

After this, when the render has cured and the plaster is dry,
you can add skirting, paint or wallpaper.

  1. Waterproof render is used for the bottom 1 meter
  2. A second coat of render is applied when the first is cured
  3. This 2 part system is used on all damp walls, corner to corner
  4. The contaminated walls are sealed in used waterproof render

Plastering & Rendering

  1. Rising damp can contaminate the lower 1 meter of the wall
  2. Soluble salts in the ground rise with the damp and attack the old gypsum based plaster
  3. That is why you should look out for rising damp, it is the salt damage not the water
  4. The water carries the salt and the damp course stops the water from reaching the plaster
  5. You can renew the damp course which stops any more damp from rising
  6. The salt that is still in the wall will carry on attacking the plaster
  7. The treatment is,

    • To remove the old contaminated plaster or hack off the old plaster.
    • Install a new Triton damp course to prevent more damp from rising
    • To cover the revealed bricks with a Triton waterproof render
    • To allow the layers of render to cure
    • Outer walls should be thermal lined with 60mm insulation
    • Cover the render with a coat of plaster to finish
    • When the plaster is dry, the wall can be painted

External Rendering

  1. Often the damp course is compromised when the building is rendered
  2. The damp course should be brought up to date
  3. The render should never be applied below the damp course
  4. The render mix can be sand and cement or lime based if required
  5. The weather should be dry to allow the render to be added without being washed off
  6. You should not apply lime render in acid rain
  7. If scaffold is required, a scaffold company must be used
  8. The price is usually calculated based on how many square meters there are
  9. The price can include the following;

    • Hacking off the old render
    • Fitting the steels, edging strips, base or bell cast strips,
    • Covering windows, doors, sub roofs and drives for example
    • Removing fencing or drains temporarily
    • Applying the fill and scratch coats which are allowed to crack out or cure
    • Applying the finished coat
    • Painting
    • And cleaning up
    • We have applied decorative stones and a variety of paint finishes
    • Sandtex for example can be trowelled on and ragged into a pattern
